In order to understand the status and characteristics of the air conditioning energy consumption of residential buildings in Shanghai, using the monthly electricity consumption data of residential buildings in 2014, analyses the energy consumption of air conditioning system in summer with improved meter reading separation method. The results show that the air conditioning energy consumption of the residential household in summer is 317 kW·h, which accounts for 13.9% of annual electricity consumption, and the average air-conditioning energy consumption index is 4.58 kW· h/m2. The average level of residential air-conditioning energy consumption is quite low and the air-conditioning energy consumptions among different households are quite different. Household air-conditioning using behavior patterns are still the main factors, which affect the residential air-conditioning energy consumption in summer.
